Descriptive diary kept by Robert Shute during a trip from Preble County, Ohio through Columbus, Zanesville, and Marietta to survey a line from the Ohio River near Marietta to Wellsville, Ohio. Included are descriptions of Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus, mounds near Marietta, and a visit of William Henry Harrison to New Lisbon, Ohio on July 10, 1838.
